How many hours do I need to renew my appraisal license?

Currently you are required to complete 28 hours of continuing education every two-years if you are an Appraiser Licensee, Certified General, or Certified Residential.   Trainees are required to complete 14 hours of continuing education starting in their 3rd year.   Everyone is required to complete 7 hours of USPAP (Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice) every two years as part of their required continuing education hours.   Click here for more information.

Why aren't the specific locations of the courses listed?

We don't include class locations because locations change.  Also, we need to know how many people want to attend.   If we post locations, we will have walk-ins that we're not expecting and therefore we may not have enough chairs, handouts, etc.   Locations and directions are mailed to students upon registration.

What is the process for starting a career in real estate appraisal?

The first step in appraisal licensing is to become a Trainee.  This is accomplished by completing 75 hours of Qualifying Education.  Our program starts with the 30 hour "Basic Appraisal Principles" course, followed by the 30 hour course "Basic Appraisal Procedures". You are also required to take 15 hours of qualifying education in USPAP (Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice).

Upon completion of the above three courses, you need to make arrangements to work under the
direct supervision of a certified residential or certified general appraiser who meets the qualifications for supervisor.   You need to accumulate 2000 hours of work experience in no fewer than 12 months, complete a total of 150 hours of qualifying education (this includes the 75 hours you needed for initial licensing), and pass a state exam to upgrade your trainee license to "Licensed Residential Appraiser."

Click here for more information on licensing requirements.
